Issue #215: July 15, 2008

Broadway

  • September 18 is the date Katie Holmes makes her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons.
  • Look for Stockard Channing to return to the stage when she stars in the Roundabout Theaters’s revival of Pal Joey due to open on December 11 at Studio 54.

  • On the Off Broadway front Tom Cavanagh will star in Some Americans Abroad at Second Stage beginning July 15 and Maura Tierney heads the cast of Three Changes at Playwrights Horizons in August.

  • Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth have signed on for an August reading for The Addams Family, a new musical that looks Broadway bound.

  • Look for Kate Mulgrew to join Harry Potter alum Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths in the revival of Equus opening at the Broadhurst Theater on September 25.

Broadway On The Road

  • Monty Python’s magic is heading to western Canada when the tony Award-winning musical Monty Python’s Spamalot opens at Edmonton’s Northern Albers Jubilee Theatre July 29 through to August 3. Then the production heads down the highway to Calgary for a run from August 5 to 10 at the twin facility.

  • The multi award winning play August: Osage County is scheduled to hit the road for a national tour beginning in San Francisco next summer.

  • The life of the musical Gone With The Wind has been somewhat shorter than the staying power of the movie. The producers recently announced the musical would close on June 14, not totally unexpected as the production received scathing reviews when it opened in April.

Bits & Pieces

  • Yes that was film mogul Harvey Weinstein on the Tony stage recently, when the productions August: Osage County and Boeing Boeing picked up trophies. As a producer of these award winners he will continue to develop projects for the stage including a musical version of Finding Neverland and Pink Floyd’s The Wall.
