the Toronto Star article on Camp Broadway!!
- Ian Rickson's latest production of Chekhov's The
Seagull played to capacity at the Royal Court Theater….although
the run was not extended there is talk of it heading to Broadway
in 2008. Let's hope if that's true that they inherit
the star, Kristin Scott Thomas.
- Seems like The Seagull is the play to see…on
many stages….there will be an off Broadway production
mounted next March by Classic Stage Company starring stage,
film and TV veteran Dianne Weist.
- Harvey Fierstein returns to Broadway next
spring in a musical adaptation of A Catered Affair.
- Bye bye to The Producers. After 2,502 performances
the record breaking Tony Award winning musical closed in April. Which
just goes to show you even with all those Tony's there's no
guarantee for a never-ending run.
The Police
Concert Tickets are hot as well as Broadway theater shows like Jersey Boys
Tickets, Disney's Mary Poppins on
Broadway and classics like Wicked Tickets.
- The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling
Bee hits the stage at L.A.'s Wadsworth Theater
in May…with Dan Fogler joining
the original cast.
- It started with the 2004 Academy Award winning film Ray and
now the same team that brought us this movie blockbuster is
mounting Ray Charles Live! The musical premieres
at Southern California's Pasadena Playhouse in November. No
talks are happening yet for a Broadway run….the producers
just want to see how it plays in November.
- The Williamstown Theater Festival will host a production
of Lillian Hellman's The Autumn Garden starring Allison
Janney (The West Wing).
- You may think of him as a film and television actor (Airport,
The Shining, Dallas, Cannon, etc.) but Barry
Nelson also had quite an illustrious stage career. In
the early 50s he starred with Barbara Bel Geddes (Dallas) inthe
popular Broadway production of The Moon Is Blue. From
1961 to 1964 he teamed up again with Ms. Bel Geddes in Mary,
Mary…a play that would later be adapted for
the screen starring Mr. Nelson only with Debbie
Reynolds as his mate. Following the close
of Mary,
Mary on Broadway he was paired with Lauren Bacall in Cactus
Flower. In the 70s he starred with Deborah
Kerr in Edward Albee's Seascape. In
1978 he earned a Tony nomination for his role in The Act starring Liza
Minnelli. Barry Nelson died on Saturday, April
7 at the age of 86.
