Issue #177: August 15, 2006
- The world premiere of the Manhattan Theater Club’s Regrets
Only on November 14 will herald a return to the stage for the stunning Christine Baranski.
- The presentation of a trio of plays by Tom Stoppard kicks
off on October 17 at the Lincoln Centre Theater. One of the plays, The
Coast of Utopia will have Amy Irving as a cast member. Also
headlining at the Center in October is Blair Brown in The Clean
House.
- Kevin Kline has replaced Christopher Walken in
the Public Theater’s production of Mother Courage and Her Children,
which is set to open on August 21.
- Former Sex in the City alum Kim Cattrall will
tread the boards at the Donmar Warehouse in David Mamet’s The
Cryptogram opening on October 17.
- Martin Short opens his show Martin Short: Fame
Becomes Me in New York at the Jacobs Theater on August 17. In
previous cities it wasn’t uncommon for his alter ego Jiminy Glick to
bring onstage an unsuspecting audience member to be interviewed or grilled
as it were. In the tryout cities of Toronto and Chicago the audiences was
treated to surprise celebrity guests such as Dennis Miller, Eugene
Levy, Gene Simmons and Toronto’s Mayor David Miller. Although
this is not necessarily a nightly occurrence don’t be surprised to see the
likes of Steve Martin, Chevy Chase or whoever is in New York
promoting their latest movie, book, television show, etc. You just never
know who might appear on the night you are there.
